Ukraine spent $4 billion on weapons due to delay in promised aid: impact on budget and defense capabilities

The Ukrainian state has spent a considerable amount of $4 billion from its budget on the purchase of weapons and military equipment due to the delay in the promised aid from its partners. This was announced by the Minister of Finance of Ukraine, Sergii Marchenko. This situation has negative consequences for both the country's defense capability and its budget.

According to the minister, in early 2024, Ukraine faced a difficult situation, as there was a lack of both funding and the necessary resources in the field of weapons and ammunition. The amount spent on arms purchases was the result of a shortage of material and financial resources needed for defense.

Marchenko emphasized that the absence or delay in support for Ukraine has a negative impact on its ability to resist the enemy at the front. Inadequate air and missile defense capabilities also reduce the country's economic potential.

The key problem that the Minister of Finance draws attention to is the need to quickly develop a mechanism for using the frozen assets of the Russian Federation in favor of Ukraine. This could be one of the ways to secure the necessary resources to support the country's defense capability.

Minister Marchenko emphasizes that by defending their borders, Ukrainians are defending the international order and restraining the spread of war to Europe. To achieve victory, it is important to match military resources with those of the aggressor, which requires additional efforts and support from international partners.

It is clear that the situation requires immediate measures from all sides to provide Ukraine with sufficient resources to effectively counter any threats and preserve international peace and stability.
